Questions & Replies

  1. Is the recipe missing sugar and oil/butter? All other French bread recipes I’ve seen have at least some sugar (for the yeast) and oil. (???)

  1. This is an easy, tasty loaf of bread! Perfect for those of us (me included) that are afraid of bread making. I have even made it on my breadmakers quick cycle, and it is still perfect and tasty! I am going to make it for the third time right now! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

  2. Thanks, princess buttercup, this is a great recipe. No fuss, no muss. I like things easy and quick. Stuck this in the machine last night and just used dough cycle. Tried to make two thin baguetts, but my yeast is just too good. Anyway we liked the flavor and texture of the bread.

  3. I let the bread machine work the dough and do the cooking. Several minutes into the kneading, the dough looked slightly crumbly so I spritzed it with a water bottle and pulled the dry flour from the corners with a spatula. Other than that minor little fix the recipe made the best bread that I have made in a bread machine. The crust was crunchy and the inside was soft and chewy the way it should be. I have run many recipes for various breads through this machine that just weren't quite what I was looking for until this one! The only Tweek I will probably try is after the next loaf is done, I may brush some butter on the top and roll it in sesame seed and let it toast a few minutes in the oven.

  4. Very tasty bread. I made this on dough cycle. Then I split the dough in half, shaped into 2 french bread shapes, covered, let rise an hour. I put slits in the dough tops and baked at 350° for 25 minutes turning pan at about 15 minutes. This is the best bread with a wonderful crispy crust. So easy and delicious.

  5. No sugar?
