This is fantasic for those recipes that call for the dry mix. This is from the Pillsbury Bake-off Cookbook 1995. Makes about 2 cups."

Questions & Replies

  1. Do you know how many cups of dry mix were in the packages that used to be available on the shelf? I am using the dry mix in a bar cookie recipe, not as icing for a cake. It seemed like this recipe made a larger quantity than one box would have. I recall the box I used being smaller than a cake mix box, shorter, narrower and thinner. I am not sure if I should only use a portion of this recipe to substitute in my old recipe, or the whole batch. I have made it twice, and the first time I used the whole thing, not thinking about it maybe making a larger amount, and it tasted fine, but seemed like a lot more than the box. The second time I made it, the recipe did not come out the same, and I am not sure if it was because of the boxed cake mix not being the original quantity or not, in addition to the dry mix maybe making more than the former box. I searched to find a quantity for the dry mix boxes and hadn’t come up with anything, so would appreciate it if you would share that information if you know. Thanks.

I would like to welcome you to my recipes. I have been with Food.com since 10/05. My beloved husband, Tom, passed away 3 years ago. My world stopped. It's taken me all this time to find my way back to life without him. I have been so blessed to have found my second, once in a lifetime. I've met an amazing man who is so good to me. We moved from Las Vegas, Nevada to Bullhead City, Az. in February, and we love it here. I have worked at Bally's and Paris hotel.casinos, in Las Vegas. I have seen some very famous entertainers, including Liza Minnelli, Penn and Teller, Ray Liotta, Dr. J (Julius Erving), Frank Sinatra and his wife Barbara Marx. and many, many more. Cooking is my passion, and I am slowly, but surely beginning to venture into the world of baking. To me, cooking is so much easier because baking is so much more exact. I love to make Italian and Mexican food the best, followed by Chinese and last, but by far the least, good old American food! How can you beat chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy?? I love to find several recipes and put my own spin on them and create a new recipe.
